Ludwig was dreaming of such castle since childhood he grew very close-in the family estate of Schwangau. Ludwig was a connoisseur and lover of Germanic mythology and, apparently, from this came the worship of the mythical Swan Knight Lohengrin. Having inherited the Royal crown, Ludwig began construction of a fairytale castle, which in all respects from Ludwig’s views corresponds to the German ideals of chivalry. Initially on this rock there was a destroyed watchtower. This place will serve as a building site for Neuschwanstein, his dream of “House with a Swan", decided the new king. On September 5, 1869 in the base of the main building - the first stone was put.
